The Eucharist at St John's follows A Prayer Book for Australia.  The hymn books used are Together in Song and Common Praise.

Evensong using the Book of Common Prayer is held several times a year, usually quarterly.

Other services, such as weddings, baptisms and funerals are held when requested.

Dr. Jill Benson, a parishioner at St Johns. is Director of the Health in Human Diversity Unit in the Discipline of General Practice, University of Adelaide. She works as a GP with refugees at the Migrant Health Service, with Aboriginal people at Yalata and with students at the University of Adelaide. In 2005 and 2006 she worked as a locum at a teaching hospital in Nepal. She teaches psychological topics and transcultural health.
Come along and get to know more about St John’s parishioners, their stories and interests.

I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU DID NOT VISIT ME

On retirement from full-time ministry, Alan was challenged by a fine Roman Catholic (who has sold carpets to Fr Christopher), to be involved in the Kairos Ecumenical Prison Ministry. Reflecting on Matthew 25.30, he took up the challenge and has been involved in that ecumenical ministry ever since, where his counselling skills have been tested. Alan will talk about his “richly rewarding” work with the Kairos Ecumenical Prison Ministry.

John has been a parishioner at St Johns for more than 50 years. His interest in birds has spanned 60 years. He is currently the President of the Southern Cage Bird Society of SA Inc., a position he has held for a total of about 15 years in two bouts. He also has the position of Cage Bird Supervisor at The Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of SA Annual Show. His aviary has more than 100 birds, mainly finches but some doves,
quail and 1 pair of Scarlet Chested parrots.

ORGANIC FOOD - WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Alf is a former Chief Medical Scientist from the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital and a professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Adelaide. He is currently a director of two biotechnology companies involved in the development of drugs to treat degenerative diseases. He has had a passion for food that commenced in England while he was a post graduate student. He was formerly a member of the International Wine and Food Society in the UK and in Sydney, has had a strong interest in growing and preparing food over many years, and has given numerous talks to community groups on the link between health and of nutrition. His increasing concerns for the contamination of our food culminated in his publication of “The Silent Threat” in 2005. He was formerly the Chairperson of the Trust Advisory Board of the Organic
Federation of Australia, the peak body for the organic food industry.

Come and hear Australia's first woman Press Secretary, who has become a very new Australian after fifty years living here, talk about her experiences as a teenage migrant. Ione Brown (now in retirement more generally known as Tisha) will tell about her arrival in the fifties in the green bit at the bottom of Australia marked Mediterranean Climate, about being a Token Woman in the seventies, and about what minders and Yes Minister have done to democracy for the 21 century.
